Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU was born on 29.06.1965 in Istanbul, Turkiye. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture in 1986. In the same year, he started to work in the Department of Horticulture as a Research Assistant. He completed his master’s degree in Ankara University, Institute of Science, Department of Horticulture in 1988. Between 1989 and 1990, he was at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania-Crete/Greece for 1 year with the scholarship he won from the same institution to do postgraduate studies in MAICH-Chania/Crete-Greece. He completed his doctorate in Ankara University, Institute of Science, Department of Horticulture in 1993. Between 1995-1996, with a Nato-B1 scholarship, he conducted research as a visiting scientist at Cornell University, New York State Agricultural Experiment Research Station- Department of Horticulture-NYSAES. He continued his studies in the same department by taking the title of Assistant Professor in 1996, Associate Professor in the same year and Professor in 29.04.2003.
Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU served as Deputy Head of Horticulture Department between 1998-2001 and Head of Horticulture Department for 11 years from 2004 to 16.02.2015. He served as the Dean of Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture from February 13, 2015 to July 28, 2017. Since 14 December 2017, he has been appointed as a Rapporteur in the Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture Council of the Interuniversity Board.
Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU has worked as a manager and assistant researcher in many national and international projects, has authored 46 works published in the SCI index, 75 research articles published in national journals, authored 1 book and chapters in 2 books. He has 1198 citations in Scopus and 3189 citations in Google Scholar (Scopus H Index =15, Google Scholar H Index=23). 32 Master’s and 8 PhD studies have been completed under his supervision. He is currently the advisor of 1 Doctorate study.
He has served as a member of the Organizing Committee and Scientific Committee in many Symposiums and Congresses held in Turkiye. He served as the Chairman of the Symposium Organizing Committee at the 9th National Viticulture and Technologies Symposium on 12-16 September 2017 (2013-2017). He served as a member of the Symposium Organizing Committee and the Chairman of the Symposium Sponsorship Committee of the 30th International Horticultural Congress held on 12-16 August 2018 (2010-2018). Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU is a member of the International Horticultural Association and has been serving as the country representative for the last 14 years.
Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU served as the Chair of the Turkish Prime Ministry SPO (State Planning Organization) 9th Development Plan Herbal Production Specialization Commission. Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU served as the Chair of the Crop Production and Plant Health Commission of the 3rd Agriculture Forest Council (17 July 2019-20 November 2019).
He served as the Congress Chair of IX. (13-17 January 2020) and X. (13-17 January 2025) TMMOB ZMO (Chamber of Agricultural Engineers) Turkish Agricultural Engineering Technical Congress, which is held every 5 years.
Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU has been working as Technical Expert and Auditor in TÜRKAK since 2010 in 17065 System Certification and 17024 Personnel Certification.
Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU has been serving as the Chair of the Executive Board of The Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Agricultural Engineering Educational Programs (ZİDEK) since June 2015.
Prof. Dr. Gökhan SÖYLEMEZOĞLU has been serving as the ZİDEK Representative at the European Network for Accreditation Engineering Education (ENAEE) General Assembly since 12 May 2023 following ZİDEK’s full membership of ENAEE.
He still continues his studies as a faculty member at Department of Horticulture at Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture.
