He was born in 1970 in Ankara. He completed secondary and high school at TED Ankara College. In 1992, he completed his undergraduate education first in his class in Ankara University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering. He completed his master’s degree in Ankara University, Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies in 1994 and received the title of M.Sc. Engineer. He completed his doctorate in the Department of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering at Ankara University, Institute of Science and Technology in 1998, some of his doctorate studies were carried out with TUBİTAK NATO scholarship, at Warsaw University of Life Sciences. He won the German Alexander von Humboldt Scholarship in 1998 and worked as a “senior researcher” in the Biosystems Engineering Department of the Munich Technical University and completed his Post-Doc. residency in 2000. In 1999, he obtained the title of associate professor in the field of Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineering. He also served as the Regional Projects Coordinator and Kazakhstan (Almaty) representative to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) between 2000-2002.
In 2002, he was appointed as a lecturer (Assoc. Prof.) to the Department of Industrial Technology Education at Gazi University. He received the title of Professor in 2005. He served as the Head of the Department of Industrial Technology Education between 2005 and 2013 and the Head of the Department of Energy and Transportation Technologies Education between 2002-2013. Between 2006 and 2009, he served as the Senator of Gazi University. In 2013, he was appointed as a faculty member (Prof. Dr.) and the first Head of Department at Gazi University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Industrial Design, and served as the head of the department for two terms.
In 2004, he undertook the execution of the first EU pilot project obtained by Gazi University on behalf of Turkey. EU Leonardo da Vinci Project named “New Approaches in Technology Training”, which he carried out between 2005-2007, was selected among the 50 most successful projects among all projects carried out within the EU by the EU Commission and was awarded (Helsinki Awards, 2006). In 2007, he was selected by the EU Commission Executive Agency (EACEA) as the EU Commission Evaluation Expert, a duty which he still continues.
Between 2006 and 2008, he worked as the Advisor in charge of Patent and International Projects to the President of Gazi University and carried out the establishment and organization activities of the Patent Support Unit in Gazi University, which he designed as the first model in public universities in Turkey. He was deemed worthy of the International Intellectual Property Rights Research Award in 2008 for his Technology Transfer Office model. In 2009, he succeeded in the exam held by the Turkish Patent Institute and became a “patent and industrial design attorney”.
In 2007, he took part in the National Team of Bologna Experts formed by the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye and the EU Commission, and carried out studies on quality assurance in higher education and national qualifications framework in various universities. He held various positions within the European Universities Association (EUA). He took part in the consortium of the EU project “Quality Assurance for the Higher Education Change Agenda” carried out by the European Universities Association (EUA) and the German Accreditation Agency (ACQUIN) between 2007-2009. During this period, he carried out model development studies on self-assessment methods at universities.
Since 2004, he has been involved as an executive, coordinator and consultant in various pilot, innovation transfer, strategic partnership and mobility projects within the scope of EU Education Programs (Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus). Between 2005 and 2013, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Germany’s Duisburg-Essen, Flensbug and Potsdam Universities and Spain’s Sevilla University within the scope of EU Erasmus Program for different periods. In 2011, with a YÖK scholarship, he conducted research as a visiting professor at Mississippi State University in the USA for two months.
In 2017, he was selected as an Academic Evaluator of the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK). Between 2009 and 2015, he undertook various duties in the R&D Center, SAN-TEZ, Technoenterpreneurship and Technoinvestment programs’ executive committee and evaluation commissions under the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Since 2017, he has been working in the R&D and Design Center evaluation commissions of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
There is a total of 25 projects, most of which are at international level, that have been completed under his management so far. He is still working as a lecturer (Prof. Dr.) at Gazi University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Industrial Design. In addition, he has been an Academic Evaluator of the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) since 2017, a member of the KOSGEB R&D, Innovation and Industrial Application Support Program Evaluation Board since 2018 and a member of the evaluation commission for R&D and Design Centers of the Ministry of Industry and Technology since 2017. He is a member of the evaluation commission and has been working as an Evaluation Expert at the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) since 2007.
Prof. Dr. H. Güçlü YAVUZCAN served as a member of the ZİDEK Advisory Board since between 2019-2022 and has been serving as a Member of ZİDEK Executive Board since 25.06.2021.
He has excellent command of English language and good command of German language.
