
He was born in Osmaniye in 1966. After moving to Mersin before primary school, he completed his secondary and high school education at Tevfik Sırrı Gür High School in Mersin. For university education, he moved to İzmir and graduated with top honors in 1987 with a Bachelor’s degree from Ege University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Plant Protection. He began working as a research assistant in the same department in November 1988. He completed his Master’s degree with top honors in 1990. Between 1992 and 1997, he conducted his doctoral studies on a state scholarship at the University of Bonn, Institute of Plant Diseases and Plant Protection in Germany. His doctoral research, supported by Bayer Crop Science, was carried out at the company’s Agricultural Center and Residue Analytics Institute in Germany. He became an Assistant Professor in 1998, an Associate Professor in 2004, and a Professor in 2009. He retired in 2021 after approximately 33 years of service at Ege University. Between 2021 and 2024, he served as the General Secretary of the Agricultural Pesticide Manufacturers Association (ZİMİD) as an industry representative. Since January 2024, he has been working as the Inter-Institutional Relations and Registration Leader at the Rainbow company.
At Ege University, he primarily worked on the effects of plant protection products and biocidal products on insects, plants, the environment, and human health. He taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses and supervised many postgraduate theses. He served as a principal investigator, researcher, or consultant in many projects. He has numerous presentations and articles at national and international conferences and in scientific journals.
He served in the administration of the Entomological Society of Türkiye for 20 years, including two terms as President. Between 2009 and 2014, he was the editor of the Turkish Journal of Entomology and the Turkish Bulletin of Entomology As a member of the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Agricultural Engineering Educational Programs (ZİDEK), he served as an evaluator for various programs. He was part of the preparatory team for establishing an agriculture-focused R&D Center and a Technopark, and founded two separate R&D and entrepreneurship companies.
He served on many high-level commissions in fields such as Plant Protection, Pesticides and Biocidal Products, Agriculture, Environment, Agricultural R&D, and Agricultural Education and Accreditation, contributing to the shaping of policies and regulations in these areas. He held senior positions in various institutions and organizations, including Department and Division Chairs, Association Presidency, and Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Branch Management. He served as a member of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects, Chamber of Agricultural Engineers İzmir Branch Board of Directors. He chaired the Plant Health and Plant Protection Products Risk Assessment Commission under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Within the scope of the 12th Development Plan, he worked as the sole representative of the pesticide sector on the Türkiye Specialization Commission for the Localization of Fertilizers, Seeds, and Pesticides. He was involved in numerous projects and studies covering cooperation between the Ministry, Municipalities, Universities, and the Sector in the fields of Agriculture and Environment. He provided training to thousands of personnel working in pest control for the municipalities of İzmir, Muğla, Mersin, and Ordu.
Durmuşoğlu, who speaks German and English, is married and has two children.
